Resurrection and Mystery Babylon

Resurrection and Mystery Babylon go together like chocolate and peanut butter.  They are inseparable in Scripture. We endeavor in this writing to show that the identity and judgment of Mystery Babylon corresponds to the time of the resurrection.

Mystery Babylon and the Last Trumpet

In Revelation 11:8-18, Mystery Babylon is identified as the city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. This clearly marks Jerusalem as the subject of the mystery. Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem outside the gates, (Heb. 13:12). During His ministry he stated that it could not be that a prophet perish outside of Jerusalem, (Lk. 13:33).

Jerusalem had been likened to Sodom, a city noted for harlotry in the past, Isaiah 1:21; Ezk. 16:48-49, 53-57. In the Revelation text, 11:8, it is now spiritually called Sodom, i.e. Sodom (more…)

Olivet Discourse: Has the Kingdom of God Arrived?

ReExamination - Eschatology

Olivet Discourse: Has the Kingdom of God Arrived? Matthew, Mark and Luke, all record the Olivet Discourse. However, only one explicitly mention the coming of the kingdom of God. While all gospels speak of the coming kingdom, only Luke connected it with Jesus’ address on the Mount of Olives.

The kingdom is the reign of God in men’s hearts. Luke recorded Jesus’ words that during the Roman conflagration of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, the kingdom would be near. “So likewise you, when you see all these things, know that the kingdom of God has drawn near.”

The question we ask is did Jesus speak of the coming of the kingdom in Matthew or Mark or both? The importance of this question centers on the fact that Luke’s account is admittedly a reference to Jesus’ coming in the clouds during Jerusalem’s fall in the first century. Thus, to show a connection between Matthew and Luke demonstrates they both taught the soon arrival of the kingdom.

In order to establish that connection, let us consider a statement Jesus makes elsewhere in Luke concerning his kingdom. When the Pharisees asked when the (more…)

But of That Day and Hour Who Knows?

But of That Day and Hour>

But of That Day and Hour Who Knows? This is a common response by those who yet believe Jesus’ second coming is future. This is a brief response to demonstrate why that reasoning does not follow. The view addressed here comes from a study citing Luke 21:34-35, as a day of uncertainty. The writer maintained that since those verses followed Luke 21:32, which clearly delineated the A.D. 70 fall or Jerusalem, then they must of necessity be speaking of a yet future unknown coming of the Lord.  The following is a partial reply.

Not Knowing the Day and Hour

Luke does not mention the phrase, “but of that day and hour no man knows” as does Matthew and Mark. That does not mean that the idea is not present in the text. Clarke correctly deduces the idea from the language of surprise suggested by the (more…)

Does Matthew 24:31, Present a Dilemma for Partial Preterist Kenneth Gentry?

The Destruction of Jerusalem by Titus

Kenneth Gentry, a reformed scholar and partial preterist has written some great books and held debates that have been helpful to ongoing studies and debates about eschatology. However, his books are not without contradictions. It is my observation that Gentry cannot successfully debate a true Preterist or a Dispensationalist from a partial preterist perspective simply because of those inconsistencies, which by the way Dr. Thomas Ice, a Dispensationalist pointed out in their debate on the Great Tribulation.

Does Matthew 24:31 present a dilemma for partial preterist Kenneth Gentry? While offering compelling arguments on behalf of his partial preterist position, many of those same arguments were an impaling sword turned against him negating the effectiveness of his attempt to refute Dispensationalism, a position we also reject. In an interview, about Preterism posted on YouTube.Com, Dr. Gentry offers comments on what he chooses to style as “hyperpreterism.” Although he admits that one (more…)

Who Reigns Over the Nations in the Millennium?

Who Reigns Over the Nations in the Millennium?

Many claim that a particular group will reign over the nations with Christ. At one point, the Anglo-Saxons of Britain believe they were the ten lost tribes of Israel. They reasoned that the 10 tribes of Israel versus the tribes of Judah and Benjamin will reign with Christ in the millennium. Our question is, “Who reigns over the nations in the millennium?”

Imagine having a mindset that you’re part of a race of people who will rule over the nations of the world?  Would that not foster aggression against other nations?  However, Premillennialists hold to a (more…)

Is a A Day A Thousand Years With the Lord?

A common argument used by futurist in both Amillennial and Dispensational camps is that a day with the Lord is a thousand years. By taking this verse to mean that a literal day is a literal thousand years, they offer it as proof that Christ could not return in the first century. In other words, it cancels out all imminent time statements. Is a Day a thousand years With the Lord? Note the following.

Earthquakes in Divers Places, Signs of the Times?

More end time prophets are on the horizon, predicting the end of the world from a series of recent earthquakes in California and elsewhere around the country. But, are earthquakes in divers places, signs of the times? There are so many earthquakes that occur every day that they don’t even make the news. Why, because earthquakes are a common occurrence.

This information can easily be checked through the US Geological Earthquake Hazards Survey Program, (USGS).  There are so many earthquakes that occur daily that they only measure those of 2.5 rating or higher in and near the U.S.  To point to a certain area such as California (where earthquakes commonly occur) and claim it is the sign of the end, (more…)

What Does Paul Say About Daniel 12 and the Time of the Resurrection?

HOMELESS

In a recent study, we discussed
Daniel 12, and Paul’s commentary
on the timing of the resurrection.

The question of inquiry was “What
does Paul say about Daniel 12 and
the time of the resurrection?”

However, we did not begin in Daniel, though it was the guiding text, but

Seeing Too Much Rapture in the Gospel of John 14:3?

In a continuation of our study on the
we ask are some are “Seeing too much
Rapture in the Gospel of John 14:3?

Today, we further investigate whether
this text teaches the Rapture.

It is assumed that because the Lord said
he was going away and would come again
that an intermediate period for the Rapture
before the “final” end can be inserted.

Yet, one cannot build such a doctrine
in the parameters of this context. We’ll
get to that in a moment.

As we pointed out in the previous post,

Has the Last Trumpet Sounded?

Saint Matthew, from the 9th-century Ebbo Gospels.

Has the last trumpet sounded? By the
last trumpet we mean the eschatological
trumpet that consummates the last days
events.

According to Numbers chapter 10, Israel
learned the meaning of the use of the
trumpets through the instruction of Moses.

Specific details for the gathering of the
assembly, advancing, going to war and
in the accompaniment with the appointed
feasts were assigned to the blowing
