Did Zephaniah Read the Mayan 2012 Prophecy?

End of the World

Zephaniah's World Destruction -2012?

Did Zephaniah Read the Mayan 2012 Prophecy? First, who was Zephaniah? He was ninth in the literary order of the minor prophets, the son of Cushi, and great-grandson of Hezekiah.  (Zeph. 1:1) He prophesied in the days of Josiah, king of Judah (B.C. 641-610). He was also a contemporary of the prophet Jeremiah.

Zephaniah was an inspired prophet of God. He received his message from the Spirit of God. He prophesied that God would bring the world to an end.

I will utterly consume everything from the face of the land,” says the Lord; I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, the fish of the sea, and the stumbling blocks along with the wicked. I will cut off man from the face of the land, says (more…)

The Acceptable Year of the Lord

Jubilee - Acceptable Year of the Lord 70 AD

The Acceptable Year of the Lord. A major failure of end times prophecy teaching is the inability to make the transition from national geo-centric Israel to spiritual Christo-centric Israel.  It is the chief source from a biblical view for the support of Dispensational Zionism. Ultra-literalism describes their method of interpretation. Stephen Sizer points out that often when quoting texts, Dispensationalists supply their interpretation right in the text. (Zion’s Christian Soldier’s, p. 34)

For example, when Hal Lindsey writes of the holy place in Matthew 24:15, he adds the words [the rebuilt temple]. Yet, no where in verse 15 is there any indication of a rebuilt temple. In that verse, the subject is the destruction of Herod’s then existing temple of which Christ had just spoken particularly in (Matt. 23:37-38. 24:2). In other words, when using the gloves of scripture, “if it doesn’t fit, you must force it.”

The time for the fulfillment of the prophecy is the day of the Lord, i.e. in “that day.” When the day arrived God would sound the trumpet. Now, we ask, is this trumpet to be taken literally? If so, when did it sound? How did the nations as far away as Assyria (more…)

But of That Day and Hour Who Knows?

But of That Day and Hour>

But of That Day and Hour Who Knows? This is a common response by those who yet believe Jesus’ second coming is future. This is a brief response to demonstrate why that reasoning does not follow. The view addressed here comes from a study citing Luke 21:34-35, as a day of uncertainty. The writer maintained that since those verses followed Luke 21:32, which clearly delineated the A.D. 70 fall or Jerusalem, then they must of necessity be speaking of a yet future unknown coming of the Lord.  The following is a partial reply.

Not Knowing the Day and Hour

Luke does not mention the phrase, “but of that day and hour no man knows” as does Matthew and Mark. That does not mean that the idea is not present in the text. Clarke correctly deduces the idea from the language of surprise suggested by the (more…)

Are Problems with Preterism Imaginary Born of Fear and Ignorance?

The Siege and Destruction of Jerusalem by the ...

A Day Known Only to the Lord

In view of some recent podcasts attacking the preterist position of eschatology, we want to address some of the fears and misinformation being disseminated.  Are problems with Preterism imaginery ideas born of fear and ignorance? Listening to some futurist eschatology podcasts and examining their writings one would think so. However, it’s always best to hear both sides of the story.

Preterism is now being defined and tagged as “extreme preterism” and “moderate preterism”,and even sometimes is styled “hyper preterism” versus “partial preterism.” There are other names but the purpose here is to present some distinction between the concepts above. By “extreme or hyper- preterism,” those who strongly disagree use inflammatory and (more…)

10 Road Signs of Dooms Day Countdown to Deception

The Israel Lobby and U.S.

Palestinian Christians Suffer Racism

It’s probably obvious that a discussion on the end time is very unlikely to proceed to any great length without including references to Matthew 24. Such is the case with the 10 Road Signs of Dooms Day – A Countdown of Deception. We now address the seventh of these signs offered in “Beginning of the End” by John Hagee. The reason we focused on these signs is not because of the author, but because of the influence of the system of eschatology, i.e. Dispensational Premillennialism’s detrimental effects on society and foreign policy.

And, although the system is dying, it yet has a death-grip on many of its adherents. No, we are not so naive as to believe we’ll change the hearts and minds of many die-hards, great shifts are occurring in eschatology from the theological schools to the pulpits and pew. Their house is divided, sits on a foundation of sand and its just a matter of time before it completely caves in.

The reasons are those as we’ve been covering. The issue is their total disregard for simple time statements and interpretive rules when studying the Bible. Today’s post is an example of the same.

Days of Deception Predicted as a Sign of the End

The issue is not whether the Bible predicted that many would be deceived in what Scripture describes as the last days. That is a given. We (more…)

Two Witnesses Prophesy – Do Hagee’s 10 Road Signs Countdown to Armageddon?

Bible pages

The Two Witnesses

So far, we have completed a survey of the first five of the alleged “signs of the times” to the terminal generation. Each of them were shown to be without Biblical basis. America and the world is being sold a bag of plug nickel’s for Bible prophecy. It is so serious that those who do advocate blowing entire countries off the map with nuclear weapons, all “in the name of the Lord!”

In today’s lesson, “Two Witnesses Prophesy – Do Hagee’s 10 Road Signs Countdown to Armageddon?, we examine number 6 of the alleged 10 Road Signs to End Times, and further answer the question, Are We the Terminal Generation?” In other words are we living in the last days of a generation about to see Christ return to this earth and set up camp in Jerusalem of Palestine? As bluntly as we can be, no.

Now those strongly disagree have probably already stopped reading, so if you’re still here, it means that you at least (more…)

John Hagee – 10 Signs of the Terminal Generation?

The Terminal Generation: Matthew 24: Dilemma

Hagee offers Ten Road Signs” which he believes confirms that we are living in the end of the age.   The second of those signs is taken from Zechariah 14:12-15, a text he believes speaks of the plague of nuclear warfare and/or chemical weapons.  This he calls the “Plague of the Middle East.” To understand the reasons for citing the Plague in the Middle East as a nuclear holocaust for those who fight against Jerusalem, we must take a look at the text. Let us consider, Are We in the last days, John Hagee – 10 Signs of the Terminal Generation?

“And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, their eyes shall dissolved in their sockets, and their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.

It shall come to pass in that day that a great panic from the Lord will be among them. Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor, and raise his hand against his neighbor’s hand;
Judah also will fight at Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations shall be gathered together: Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance.
Such also shall be the plague on the horse and the mule, on the camel and the donkey, and on all cattle that will be in those (more…)

Does Matthew 24:31, Present a Dilemma for Partial Preterist Kenneth Gentry?

The Destruction of Jerusalem by Titus

Kenneth Gentry, a reformed scholar and partial preterist has written some great books and held debates that have been helpful to ongoing studies and debates about eschatology. However, his books are not without contradictions. It is my observation that Gentry cannot successfully debate a true Preterist or a Dispensationalist from a partial preterist perspective simply because of those inconsistencies, which by the way Dr. Thomas Ice, a Dispensationalist pointed out in their debate on the Great Tribulation.

Does Matthew 24:31 present a dilemma for partial preterist Kenneth Gentry? While offering compelling arguments on behalf of his partial preterist position, many of those same arguments were an impaling sword turned against him negating the effectiveness of his attempt to refute Dispensationalism, a position we also reject. In an interview, about Preterism posted on YouTube.Com, Dr. Gentry offers comments on what he chooses to style as “hyperpreterism.” Although he admits that one (more…)

If Ham and Eggs Can Talk, Why Can’t the Stars in the Day of the Lord?

little-rascalsIf I were you, I would be a bit curious of a title, If Ham and Eggs Can Talk, Why Can’t the Stars, in the Day of the Lord? Don’t you think it’s a rather
interesting eschatological theme? Well, here’s what provoked the title.

As a child I remember growing up watching the Little Rascals on TV, before going to school. On one episode, a Stymie persuaded whom I vaguely
remember might have been his friends to cook him some ham and eggs. He told him that ham and eggs could talk. Well, after a little persuasion and
determination, they fried some ham and eggs, and upon his disappointment of their utter speechlessness, left the meal on the table oozing with aroma
and flavor for Stymie’s hungry stomach.

When Stymie was confronted by his friends, saying, “I thought you said ‘ham and eggs could talk.’, Stymie replied as he chomped down the food, “These
ham and eggs are saying (more…)

Can We Go Back to the Future on the End Time?

back_to_the_future_on_the_end_time1If there has ever been a subject hard to be understood it is that of the “already but not yet” of New Testament eschatology. In a chapter from “The Last Things” edited by Carl Braaten and Robert W. Jenson, includes a chapter on hints from Science for Eschatology — and Vice Versa, written by George L. Murphy. It isan attempt to understand the end of the world in the light of science.

Can we go back to the future on the end time? What this means is that we must go backwards to get to the Bible future for the end, not to the future.  Of course, an interpretation based upon science may rules out such a notion. However, God did not write eschatology as science. In the sixth century John Philoponus, who in debating with pagan Proclus, argued (more…)
