The Begining of the World – Christian Eschatology

The Beginning of the World – Christian Eschatology: We’re often asked, what is left for us if Christ has come? Where is our hope? Is this all we get? How much more ungrateful, simplistic and narrow a viewpoint can this be? That’s not to say the questions are not honest, but they do lack just bit of depth in thought.

What do we have now that Christ has come? How  about everything, including the world? Is that enough? “Therefore, let no one boast in men. For all things are yours: whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come–all are yours. And  you are Christ’s and Christ is God’s.  (1 Cor. 1:21-23). Could there be any greater blessing than to own all things present and future and to be claimed by God and Christ?

Jesus‘ victory defeated the kingdoms of the world. “The kingdoms of this world have bec0me the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ.” (Rev. – 11:15). Yet, many walk in defeat, (more…)

Olivet Discourse: Has the Kingdom of God Arrived?

ReExamination - Eschatology

Olivet Discourse: Has the Kingdom of God Arrived? Matthew, Mark and Luke, all record the Olivet Discourse. However, only one explicitly mention the coming of the kingdom of God. While all gospels speak of the coming kingdom, only Luke connected it with Jesus’ address on the Mount of Olives.

The kingdom is the reign of God in men’s hearts. Luke recorded Jesus’ words that during the Roman conflagration of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, the kingdom would be near. “So likewise you, when you see all these things, know that the kingdom of God has drawn near.”

The question we ask is did Jesus speak of the coming of the kingdom in Matthew or Mark or both? The importance of this question centers on the fact that Luke’s account is admittedly a reference to Jesus’ coming in the clouds during Jerusalem’s fall in the first century. Thus, to show a connection between Matthew and Luke demonstrates they both taught the soon arrival of the kingdom.

In order to establish that connection, let us consider a statement Jesus makes elsewhere in Luke concerning his kingdom. When the Pharisees asked when the (more…)

Hagee’s 10 Road Signs to Armageddon End Times Lead to the Past

The Triumph of Titus and Vespasian

Eschatology Podcast

Those who see our times as the last days often appeal to the words of Christ in which he predicted famine and pestilence. These words are found in Matthew.  John Hagee as Dispensationalists are fond of doing, believe that the newspaper headlines and current events unveil the road map of the end.

However, we show that Hagee’s 10 Road Signs to Armageddon End Times Lead to the Past. As in the previous seven signs we noted before, this sign of famines and pestilences also belongs to Israel’s past history. Christ’s words key us in to the fulfillment.

“And you will hear of wars and rumor of wars. See that you are not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” (Matthew 24:6-8)

Famines and pestilences marked much of the landscape of Jerusalem and Judea in its final days before its collapse. Josephus records that a famine occurred in during the siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD on the Jews that is unsurpassed for its horror (more…)

Barrack Obama, Rick Warren, Gays and Eschatology?

Roman clad in a toga

Cenk Uygur published an article in the Huffington Post, Dec. 19, 2008, titled “Not Another Word on Gay Marriage Until They Execute An Adulterer.”

This article is part of the backlash being hurled at Saddleback’s Rick Warren and President elect Barrack Obama.

Barrack Obama and Rick Warren Disagree Over Gay Marriage

Known as “Pastor Warren,” President elect Barrack Obama chose him to give the invocation at the inauguration in January. They differ on the gay marriage issue and other issues, but agree on others such as poverty and civil rights.

Now perhaps you are wondering how an issue like this winds up on a blog about eschatology? Well, after looking at the issue, it is precisely related to eschatology.  But, we’ll reserve those comments for later.

Before we go further, understand that I have agreements and disagreements with both Barrack Obama and Rick Warren, so this is not about a defense or condemnation of either of them.

Did Christ See Daniel’s Appointed Time?

Mosaic of the 12 Tribes of Israel. From a syna...

In this, our second installment on the
resurrection in Daniel, we examine the
Lord’s divine commentary on Daniel 12:2.
Did Christ See Daniel’s Appointed Time?

In the first segment we noted that
Daniel identified the “time of the end”
as the appointed time for the indignation
or anger of God against his people Israel.

Does America Need Change, Obama or the Rapture?

In an article by Rapture Ready writer Jack Kelley, the
question is raised, how would Jesus vote? The
undertones of the article subtly suggests that
Jesus would proudly be a “conservative” Republican.

There is a political and religious bias that somehow
believes that to vote Democratic is both ungodly
and unChristian. Wonder how an independent’s
faith is classified?

The Rapture Ready scribe argues that America
was founded as a Christian nation. Well at least
we can say it “professed” to be.

Were these the same “born again” Christians who
claimed land belonging to American Indians as their
own? What Biblical principle did this uphold? Thou
shalt steal? Thou shalt covet?

So, if you want your neighbors land, just shoot him
and move his family on a vacant lot and call it a
reservation! Reserved until when and for whom?
The Rapture? How is that righteousness?

If an alien from Mars landed on earth today and planted
a flag on the White house lawn claiming they discovered
a new nation while Africans who had arrived in American
before them navigated the space ship, by what logic or
Christian principle would America belong to the Martians?

So, the native Americans were discovered by aliens
and that makes it right in the sight of God! Does
America Need Change, Obama or the Rapture?

What Is the Last Days Significance of the Gift of Tongues?

I can remember the first time ever I was exposed
to a Pentecostal church where people claimed to
speak in tongues.

After the charismatic preacher worked everyone
into a frenzy, several men and women in the
congregation began chanting ecstatically with
an unrecognizable language.

I felt weird, not knowing what to do. I was about
20 years old at the time and saw young and old
engaging in this practice.

They explained they were speaking in tongues and
had the “Holy Ghost” and said that if a person did
not speak in tongues they were not saved. Further,
they claimed to have other gifts of the Spirit which
enabled them to exorcise demons and heal the sick.

I wanted to know more about this phenomenon but
did not learn the truth about it all until 1979, about
5 years later.

In discovering this truth, I found that the idea of
tongue-speaking was related to the last days and
judgment. What is the last days significance of the
the gift of tongues?

Is Preterism’s Timing of the Resurrection in Eschatology Important?

Many would like to make the subject of the resurrection a matter
of the nature of the resurrection body only. While it is valid to
address and identify the nature of the resurrection body, it is also
valid to address Preterism’s timing of the resurrection in eschatology
if futurists and other rapture ready advocates expect to build a
convincing case.

“When Shall These Things Be” edited by Keith A. Mathison a book that
sought to address the major issues of the preterit view with the hope
of convincingly refuting them, Robert Strimple had these comments
on the issue of time and resurrection.

“Obviously an orthodox Christian response to hyper-preterism must
address the prophetic “time texts” of the New Testament…” , p 290.

Strimple however passes on that attempt, trusting that the editor has
done an adequate job. However, it seems that this impressive line up of
authors did not take the time to read and fully understand the
implications and ramifications of what they had written previously
on the subject of time.

In other words, Kenneth Gentry, Jr. and Keith Mathison, use the very
same text to teach the exact opposite views. This seriously impacts
Strimple’s assumptions on the nature of the resurrection body.
It eats the heart out of his more desirable “methodology” approach. (more…)

What Is Realized Eschatology?

The subject of realized eschatology has quickly gained ground
in the end time discussions of the day. It means that all things
related to end time Bible prophecy are fulfilled.

The proper meaning of Bible prophecy is found by looking in the
past rather then in the future. This view is very controversial.
It is often met with shouts of heresy! Some would be burned at the
stake if the more radical futurists had their way.

Realized eschatology, also known as preterism or full preterism
continues to grow at a rapid pace. What are the major advantages
of this view compared to others? There are five components that
answer this question. (more…)

Resurrection in Ezekiel 37:1-14, Can These Bones Live?

The resurrection of Israel is vividly portrayed through the
metaphor of dry bones resting in the valley. The question
raised by the prophet in Ezekiel 37:1-14, is “Can These
Bones Live?
